On the water by about 9.  Got to meet Axman and friends at the ramp so the day was off to a good start.  Light to no wind and overcast.  Looked like it might be a day for the ages.   Headed North and fished North Island to the cross and Soldier Creek.  Deadsticking.  First fish was slightly over.  Threw it back because we knew there were more and better ones to come.  Well that did not turn out to be the case.  Kept 20 box fish and only caught 2 overs which we returned to the lake.  Marked lots of fish but they didn't seem to be in the mood.  Splashed, thumped, prayed, wished,  Tried lots of colors.  Bubble gum and electric chicken produced the best, but the best was anything but consistent.  Off the water by 4pm.   Not sure if it was tough for everyone.  Only other boat I talked to said they only caught 2 fish all day.  Made me feel  a little better.  Maybe it was just tough day.  I always enjoy a calm winter day on Big Tex.

I also fished on the 20th.  Turned right out of high port about 9:00am and found birds working on the Texas side about the end of north island.  There was another group of birds on the Texas side that were further east of the first bunch.  Both fish and loons were present in each group.  All I could manage was 2 fish from each group of birds. all just under 20 inches.  Went to the Willis bridge and marked lots of fish but only saw one group of birds and caught another 2 fish under them.  Also about 20 inches.  So.. 6 total for the day. All caught on "A" rigs with white flukes.  All fish were released.  What a difference a day or so makes.  Lots of big fish caught the day before!!!
