Haven’t been posting much lately.  Man that cold spell kept me in the shop pouring lead and baking lures.  But, my good friend Thomas Powell came up Sunday and we fished Sunday afternoon and Monday.  We threw out some jugs to catch some kitty fish.

The plan was to leave High Port and do some dead sticking and hopefully chase some birds.  We did do some dead sticking.  There were no birds to chase.

We worked our way west and finally wound up at Shepherd AFB annex.  I caught a nice 30 inch striper on a bubble belly “special”.  Chartreuse bubble belly with tail dyed red and a spinner bait skirt around the shank of the lead head.

Problem was that there was SO MUCH bait out there, I don’t think the fish could see our bait.

I threw a 5 inch sassy for a couple of hours and slow rolling didn’t produce.

We came back in, threw out our jugs (with Lil Smokies sausage for bait), and went to the Island Restaurant and had a double burger.

Monday morning was great.  Thomas is getting into the retirement mode and I am already there.  That is, we thought about poor Dennis Curtis probably hard at work while we sipped hot coffee, ate Canadian bacon sandwiches and watched the news.

We finally got up and out of the house about 9 or so.

No problem launching at High Port.  Very few trucks there.

We picked up the jugs before we headed west.  We caught 8 total with the largest being 55 pounds.  We let him go back.

We headed straight out west and went directly to Shepherd.  We figured that today woulda been great as it was a couple of days after the cold front pushed through.  Water temp out west was as high as 44 in some spots.

Dead sticking just didn’t gel today.  There was NO wind.  We set the iPilot on 0.5 mph and did a “drift”.  We had flukes, bubbles and sassys in the water all at the same time and no takers.

I was slow rolling a 5 inch sassy but down sized to a 4 inch sassy with a dyed tail.  Was using a 3/4 ounce white head.  Slow rolling it in 25 feet of water produced a few hits on the sassy but the hits were very light.  I finally got one to hit it a tad more than a “tap” and he went in the box.

We came back and played around in High Port marina with Thomas’ new fish finder with the side scan imaging.  We managed to find the sunken boat in the marina.  Now I know my new place for bait and crappie.

Came back, ate some good ol fried chicken, cleaned fish and called it a day!

Nice couple of days.  Enjoyed being with Loco Pescado tremendously.  Poor guy caught no fish but he did help me clean the catch.  I did notice however that he is slowing down on his netting responsibilities.

While I was fighting and trying to land a 30 inch fish, he was on the phone with his Mom and then half heartedly netted my fish.  Today, I didn’t think he’d ever move fast enough to land my other striper.  LOL!!!

Great couple of fishing ventures.  Awesome weather!!

Hey.....I've learned that overalls are the PERFECT clothes.

You got plenty of pockets....you got a zipper....you can not wear a shirt in the summer for cooling but the leg pants still protect you when doing yard work, women look at you twice.  [smile]

Chest pockets are big enough for the iPhone 6+ and my sunglasses.

Gotta hammer loop on the pants where a pair of hook removing pliers fits perfectly.  [smile]

Plus, if you have an itch, you can just stick your hand in the overalls and take care of it instead of pulling at your crotch. [smile]

I have been trying for years to get approval from my wife to buy some overalls. Your description of the advantages may just push her over the hill. (Or not)

Poor Loco...did even find time to get a pole in the water?
He's so busy drivin' you around, organizing all your stuff, keeping you safe....
No injuries reported..so far anyway, have you cleaned those Cats? [smile]

Look at his poor boat, what is all that stuff you brought?
Milk Crates, Bleach Jugs, Rods of every size, shape and color, workbench lure creations...
He's even missing his front seat....guessing he had to take that out to make more room???

That Big Cat prolly only weighed 50# when released Loco had to clean 5# of slime off his boat...

Kathy's gonna have to keep an eye on you....
With those overalls, you'll be wantin' to sign-up for that dating site.....FarmersOnly.com [smile]

Sounds like you're gettin' Loco schooled in all things retirement. [smile]

My wife hates overalls, but I still buy them and wear them when she is not around, and I always wear them in SE OK when riding 4-wheelers so I won't look out of place. I agree with Joe on the great aspects of wearing overalls and especially the scratching part.

LOCO got some free training those two days.  Plus, he took all the fish home with him.  [smile]

He's gonna be throwing out jugs in the near future.  He had a good time for sure.

On the striper catching, some of us got it and some of us don't.  [smile]
