Fished the Texas Flats today and had a good morning for sure.  What a difference 12 hours makes.  Last evening couldn't get a hit on a slab.  This morning....it was on.

Birds were working but all that was under them were 8 inch fish.  Boat show started up about 8 a.m.

I moved out and found a 24 foot 'ditch' filled with arches.  Was not disappointed.  Sat there for 2 hours steadily catching fish on the slab but finding the right slab took a bit.

I always go prepared.  [smile]  If your slab box doesn't look like this, see me. [smile]

I finally tied on a chrome Texas Slab.  As far as I know, I'm the only person who makes 'em around here as they usually a salt water jig.  Caught a limit of 16 to 19" stripers in about and hour.  Lots of doubles with sand bass.

Had to leave them biting and come in at 10 a.m. as the wife had a chore for me.  Geez.

So, here's the lure I caught them all on.

As you can see, I always use that teaser hook.

I know that a lot of folks do not like swivels.  It's another piece of hardware in the line that can fail and cost you a fish.  Every time the component count goes up, the reliability goes down.  [smile]

But, I always use a #7 Crane swivel when slabbing.  The swivel helps to significantly prevent line twist.  To me that's a big advantage.  Some folks just crank up their boat and let out a lot of line to get the twist out but it's been my experience, you have to cut the slab off for that to work.

I'm too busy fishing to be doing that.  [smile]  So, I use a swivel.  Try it.

I'm calm now.  Saw the same tritoon but they weren't within chunking range.  [smile]
