Well, I fished the 6OG tournament.  It was a fun and expensive day.

Lost rod and reel - $300
Lost umbrella rig - $40
Entry Fee - $10
Big Fish post - $25

I sat at the ramp until about 7 a.m. waiting for folks to sign up prior to launching.

Sat and talked with Eddie Sparks while we finished our coffee.

Eddie says "Ax, let me help you launch."

I says "Thanks but I'm gonna wait a bit."

In a few minutes, Lil David of Sparky's Guide Service pulls up to launch.

I says "Hey, man, let me back you in".

He says, "That'd be great.  Thanks."

I launch David.  My boat still on trailer.

David starts yelling.

Right at the ramp, big fish starting blowing up.  David threw me a spinning rod with a pencil popper on it but the fish were out of reach from the bank.

David is in the boat and catches 8 on top water in about 10 minutes.  Largest was about 8#.

I launch as fast as I can while kicking my butt for not letting Eddie launch me earlier.

I follow the birds but the fish had disappeared.  [frown]

Then I started running around chasing fish.  Marked fish every where I went but couldn't get 'em to hit.

I marked fish up around Hog Pen and put the iPilot on 'anchor'.

I slab with two rods.  Big school comes through and I immediately get hit.

I set the hook on one rod and set the second rod down.

I get the CRAPPIE into the boat and out of the corner of my eye, I see my $300 rod/reel go overboard.

I can see the butt of the rod being carried off by a fish.

Old people don't think too quickly.  Instead of picking up another one of the 12 rods I had on the boat and casting to snag it, I decided to chase it down using the trolling motor.

I got right up to the rod, opened the side gate on the tritoon, and knelt down to grab the rod.  Just as I almost had it, a gust of wind pushed me away from it.  I hit the iPilot control to get back to the rod.

iPilot control stuck on me and I couldn't get the danged thing to turn on.

By the time I beat on the control for a bit, it finally came on.  I had lost sight of the rod in the waves.

Moved up north of the car bridge.  Fish blowing up all around me.  I threw sassys, slabbed, threw rattle traps, etc. and nothing would hit.

So, I pulled out the rod with the umbrella rig on it.

After trolling for about 5 minutes, rig got hung up.  Long story short, leader broke and I lost the rig.

Ok, by now it's 10:45 and I head back to the ramp.

Weigh in was at 12:30 but I wanted to get back, check the scales for the weigh in and do what I could to help set up for lunch.

I get to the ramp.  I load the boat.  I pull the boat out.

Big fish start blowing up about 50 yards from the ramp........ugh.

I had fun but I don't think I'll ever invest another $300 in a rod and reel.

Ancient Mariner reels are awesome and are $75 each, brass gears, and guaranteed for life.  [smile]

Well, I guess you'll be raising your prices on your lures after that fiasco.

Never thought about that.  [smile]  [smile]

I did have some new slabs on board.

Guess I could write off my entry fee as "charity" and my equipment losses as part of R&D expenses.  [smile]  [smile]

I see an opportunity for a new reality TV show. "Fishin' with Axman" That would be one I could get into. We all need to chip in for a few GoPro cameras to be posted around his boat videoing all the time he is near... :-)

Any investors in this project? :-)
