We are planning on camping at west burns run this weekend. Someone said something about an alligator being spotted there and they have the beaches closed. Does anyone know if this is an accurate and credible rumor?

Last year I heard of a sighting north of Newberry Creek, but never south of the Roosevelt bridge.

http://www.kxii.com/content/news/They-are-here-Army-Corps-talks-gators-at-Lake-Texoma-384621881.html Here is the article from last year. I'm familiar with the area. It was east burns run and was uncomfirmed, but there is a creek that runs way back into the cove that would be somewhat ideal for a gator. I've launched a boat there many times and I've swimmed on the peninsula beaches there many times. My family has a lakehouse up the road. We have never seen one and I wouldn't worry. Even if there is one there it would stay away from the boat ramps. I think this guy may have mistaken a large gar as they are seen pretty commonly and get up to 200lbs. West burns run is a better location anyways and on the main lake with no swampy areas to hide in and much more beach to swim in. Haven't heard anything recently about beaches closed or gators. Nothing on KXII about beaches closed. I try to follow the local news. Come on down - nothing to worry about. Fishing is good by the damn.
