Had to wait out the rain before dawn this morning, then headed out, caught bait, and set up for cats off of North Island. Caught three pretty quick, then got chased back to the slip by the next wave of storms. Took that opportunity to run into Wal Mart and Home Depot to get things I needed to change my rod holder mounts. Made it back out at 2 or so to finish up the day's work.

I've been slaying the cats lately. My daughter's family in Tennessee is completely out of fish and my various venison sausage recipes. Trying to stock up to take her a years supply in November along with hopefully a deer or two's worth of links.

Good work bbeavers.  You have them cats figured out.  How do you rig with the bait?  Live or cut? What kind of hook?

I just use an egg weight and barrel swivel with a 12-18 inch leader and a #2 eagle claw hook about a foot or so off the bottom. Fresh cut shad seems to be popular with them now. I find them under areas frequented by bait schools a lot lately, so I think they are accustomed to picking up the sand bass and striper scraps.

Yes i agree, if you find the bait you'll find the catfish. I have had problems with presentation, it seems like they want it a different way every day. I also have been missing a lot of bites leading me to believe a lot of those fish are very small. Hell, we caught one the other day that was all of 3 inches on a #5 treble hook. I've been looking for points and any interesting contours and using my ipilot to setup right on top of the fish.
