The Bud LIght Trail Striper Challenge 2015,  Striper tournament on Lake Texoma is again set for January 31, 2015, with the same format as in December.   The Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce is a sponsor this time, which sweetens the pot to some degree.   To find out all details simply look up "Bud Light Trail Striper Challenge 2015", for entry information.   Although the turn out last time was light, we are looking for more teams, hopefully making everything bigger and better.   Hope to see you on the water.  JD

Thought I would let you know how the BLT Striper Tournament turned out this weekend.   I had a four man crew, who had already committed to fishing, regardless of the weather.   I had checked out sites during the week, and had found several spots where there were big fish.  One of my people, a soldier from Ft Hood, who had not known anything about Operation-Welcome Home, but was wanting to fish, ended up the last one to sign up.  I had another friend, who has since retired from Ft. Hood, and two old fishing buddies of mine for Tulsa, all wanted in.... Friday evening, I took one who had arrived in at Little Mineral, and wanted to run out with me that evening to look around.   I looked toward the dam, nada.  Check out couple spots, then headed to the west.  I stopped at TI Point area, got one 13 pounder, and a 10, threw back.   Knew where there was some small fish stacked up in 22 foot of water, so picked up 9-10 for him to eat, and headed in.   I had already decided to drive over to Highport that morning to sign in to the torunament, and then back to Little Mineral to pick up crew.   Great weather, overcast, little chilly, but a good looking morning... I gathered in some small fish for the boys, then headed to the islands.   What....birds working a little around the rocks just south of Highport.   Pulled about 7-8 nine pound fish, keeping a couple, and throwing others back as need something in 15-19 pound fish to win this tournament.   Birds not up long, so headed to west island, westward, and started pulling fish again.
Gathered in some 9 pound fish, still cant crack that 15 pound range...and by the time of around 10 am pulled one 15 or so.   Pulled more 10 pound fish, guess threw back some 10-12, and ended up with one around 11 or 12, and getting discussed went in around 12, as seemed getting colder with just a light mist.   We were the first in with something like 26.70 for two biggest fish.   I really felt it might not hold up, as usually whoever got the big fish, usually wins.  Sure enough we finished second, just a fraction of a pound behind.   Being a member of the Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce, our group won a real nice rod, $250, and a real nice plaque.  The rod was not the type I used, but it was expensive so I let my crew have it and they handled it professionally with a coin toss.   We had a great time, and just could not get that second fish, in to make the difference, but happy with second place finish, while having a great time also.   The bunch is already committed to the February tournament.   I will add, we saw it all, fish are biting, had our chance, with a lot of "ole shucks", catching and releasing fish, but this lake is really something, and if you have not tried it, your are missing the time of your life.  People around the lake like Little Mineral, are catering to people coming to the event, and it is only going to get better people....Good fishing    (picture is of the friday evening, catch and release, event)   JD 008.JPG
