Several folks asked me what I dead stick with. Here's what I use and why.....one man's opinion. On days where it is NOT overcast and when fishing in water that is NOT overly stained, I use either white glow or green chartreuse glow heads. I let the fish pick the color of the plastic for me. I usually fish with two rods at a time. One with white ice fluke and one with white ice fluke with tail dipped in yellow chartreuse Spike It (gamefish scent; not garlic). If neither work, I'll switch to a bubble gum (pink) and a smoking shad fluke. then if I need to, I'll switch to a green chartreuse silk fluke. It these don't work. I go home. On OVERCAST days and when the water is STAINED, I'll start off using black dead head jigs. The fish need to fish the lure and the contrast of the black in the water helps them. Again, I let the fish pick the color of the flukes but in these conditions, I start out with a smoking shad colored fluke. When dead sticking, the lure is in front of the fish and they get time to investigate it. So, I use a 12# (or sometimes 10#) flurocarbon leader. Flurocarbon is clear and sinks better than regular mono. I NEVER use a duo lock or swivel when dead sticking as the fish can see it. I ALWAYS use lead heads that have RED hooks because the fish can't see the red. They can spot a flashy silver hook and I think they are smart enough to know that the shiny hook doesn't not resemble ANYTHING that is alive. That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the deadstick heads. Them and your knowledge finally put fish in the boat last week. I never had a lot of confidence in them when I had a tank full of shad, but it's lots of fun. Almost like a winter crappie bite. I'll be getting back with you before long to buy some more.

Update on dead heads....... It's a real bummer but Eagle Claw has quit making the red hooks......... They say they'll start back up sometime but none of the suppliers have any....at least none of the large suppliers....as they are sold out. Sold out and Eagle Claw discontinues them....go figure.

Might try a searching the Eagle Claw part number on Ebay. There's an Ebay seller A to Z Auctions, they must be an "outlet store" for Eagle Claw, they have tons of Eagle Claw stuff. They often sell bulk boxes of hooks. Ebay Motors may even have ol'Avalanche or two... Sam's, Costco, etc. are notorious for having an item, then all of a sudden quit carrying it. It stinks when'ya find sumtin' you like, and then can't get it anymore.

Problem is that a lot of hooks do not fit the Do It Molds. There are a lot of red hooks on eBay that are manufactured in China. Very thin wire. The hooks used for Do It Molds are the heavy duty wire hooks. I think some one at Eagle Claw lobbied hard at Do It.
