Launched from Highport about 2:30 p.m. or so. Headed out west. Lot of birds around Hog Island and Wood Island but none working. I marked a lot of fish in the river channel about 35 feet (suspended in 60 fow).
Dead sticked a bit to no avail. Went out behind the islands looking in shallower water. Fished the weed lines on the Okie side with a belly spinner and a sassy but no takers. Water temp 58 F. Water is still high. Ramp at Highport is basically the parking lot. Got a call from Ken Zachary that he was on the fish. I headed out where he was but as he was catching fish, I caught nothing. Getting later so I decided to head back to the river channel and look around. About 5 p.m. fish started chasing shad on the surface in the middle of the lake. Seemed like old times. I pulled out a belly spinner and immediately started catching fish. Kept two overs for dinner and threw all the others back. All were good fat fish. When I cleaned them, their bellies were stuffed with 2 inch shad. Nice to feel that tug again!!!

Nice work Joe. Hopefully fishing will improve over the next few months.
