Earlier this week, I loaded up on live bait and was intending to do some catfishing.

Unexpectedly, stripers started blowing up around me.

I threw cohos, sassys, a top water and they'd have nothing to do with it.

I had four live bait rods down.  I raised the bait until I could see them just under the surface.

The stripers (all under 10 inches) would swim right up to the live shad, follow them a second and swim off.

I started throwing a 3/4 ounce Tail Zinger and caught fish constantly for 15 minutes.

I'm thinking the fish that were surfacing were all last year's spawn but they've been feeding on little shad.  So match the hatch.

I'd suggest keeping a rod rigged with a small spinner bait on it.  If the fish start surfacing and won't hit larger lures, throw the small lure.  You might not catch a 10# striper but you'll have some fun.

You seem to have a lot of luck with those tail zingers lately.  Any particular colors seem to work better or worse?
