Kathy,Ax's better half, was involved in a car wreck Wed. Head on crash in Pottsboro. If you see the pic's god was surely her co-pilot. Sadly the driver that caused the accident died. KXII has report and pics. Hard to believe anyone walked away.
Now Ax get's to repay her with some nursing.

Hey guys.  Thanks for the prayers.  I've been really running around like a chicken with its head cut off.  Trying to care for her, deal with highway patrol, insurance, etc. while trying to keep the lures going out the front door......plus, having to get to doctor's appointments for new pacemaker and getting to the pacemaker technician to have adjustments made.......

Yeah, Kathy was definitely protected by the Lord.  Unfortunately, the young man driving the other car passed away.

The highway patrol said he had visited the passenger's family and they didn't think he was going to make it.  Severed spinal chord, swollen brain, and is in a coma.....at least he was at the time the highway patrol came out to the house.  Very sad situation.

Kathy is just now able to get in and out of bed by herself.  She's got bruises on 95% of her body.

It was truly incredible that nothing on her was broken.  Incredible she wasn't seriously injured.  I just can't describe how the air went out of me when I finally got to the scene and saw 2 care flight helicopters coming in.  The choppers were for the young men; not Kathy.

Neither kid was wearing a seat belt.  When Kat recovered from the impact stunning....she looked out and the passenger was in the middle of the road by her car.

The driver was thrown into his back seat.  His head and arms were hanging out.

I know his Mom as she works part time at a convenience store close to us.

The driver had been into some serious trouble.  He had just come off 5 years probation and had gotten his driver's license back 2 week before the accident.  His Mom had bought him the 2001 Camaro and he had it a couple of weeks.  Very very sad.

Kathy's Rav 4 did the job, though.

I upgraded her to a Toyota Highlander.  Little bigger vehicle......she won't drive a HD 3/4 ton.  [smile]

I've looked at those pictures a couple of times and I'm still amazed Kathy had no broken bones - very, very fortunate.  Take care of her and yourself.  Prayers continue.

Thanks. The passenger of the driver's car passed away this past Wednesday.  Both guys in the Camaro have passed and Kathy didn't have a broken bone.

She is a miracle walking.

Highway patrol came by and said the accident report would be delayed as it is a "criminal" investigation.  I'm not sure what that means but it doesn't sound good......

Called the insurance company as I am already getting bills and they said they could not do anything until they established "liability".

So I can see this is going to be an exercise to test my patience. [smile]

The insurance company was nice enough to tell me if I wanted to go ahead and pay all the bills that they would reimburse me if liability was established.....right......

The towing/storage company sent me the first bill as the car accrues storage fees daily....  I'm still confused on the bill.

Truck $300
Driver $200
Helper $150
Labor $300
etc.

Why is there a labor charge?  They just charge to send two guys out and if they do anything there is labor?  I need to start a towing biz.

Ax, being a police officer for the last 31 years, let me give you a bit of advise. Depending on which insurance company it is, if there is an injury or death the will not talk to you period! You will have to get an attorney and sue them. The best information I can give you is that if you have full coverage insurance on your vehicle, or like me and do insurance business with a close friend, turn it over to them. That's what you pay the high premiums for.
I have been thru this twice. Once with my teen age daughter, who was hurt when she was rear ended, and once when I rolled a vehicle due to a driver running a stop sign.
Good luck and hope all comes out good.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.  Kathy is improving but we ain't outta the woods yet.  She has CT scans scheduled Monday for the abdomen and head.  She has large blood clots in her abdomen the size of grapefruits.  She is also having dizzy spells as well as other issues.

CT Scans Monday and Tuesday she is having MRIs of her right shoulder and her neck.

We will see how that goes.

You are so right.  No one at the insurance company wants to talk with me much.

We have retained an attorney.  I hate to do that but I want to make sure that we are protected.  I am concerned about her health issues down the road.

Her doctor said she cannot go back to work until after the 1st of the year...........and then it could be longer depending on what the testing this next week shows.

Thanks folks.  She got through scans today OK.  She had to drink about a quart of barium so she's been pretty sickly this afternoon.
Going to McKinney in the morning for MRIs.  Trying to get set up with an ENT doctor so we can address the dizziness / vertigo.

Seems it is going well with her.  Even with all this, she is a miracle.

Many thanks.  She is still going through the wringer.

Torn rotator cuff
Inner ear crystal dislocations (resulting in vertigo)
Right hip issues
Left knee issues
Torn stomach muscles with resulting hernia
Neck issues

Been going to ENT guy for the inner ear.
Going to an ortho guy today for MRI and X ray results on hip and knee.

It goes on but I will tell ya the truth, when I looked across the table at Thanksgiving and she was sitting there....it gave a whole new meaning to thankfulness.

Thanks for all the prayers.

She goes back to her PCP 29 December.  Not sure when she'll be able to go back to work.

Knee surgery coming up within the next 3 weeks.  She'll need 4 - 6 weeks to recoup.  Can't do a scope to repair the damage.  She'll have to be cut.

Shoulder surgery ccming soon after that.  It's been a slow process.

Kathy has decided to not have knee surgery.  She said "Joe, you've had 7 knee surgeries and you aren't any better."

Having a wife that is a nurse can be tough at times.

Still waiting on shoulder update.  They are trying PT and steroid injections.  Hopefully no should surgery.

I've had both of mine redone and shoulder rehab is more painful than anything.  Brings back memories....falling through ceiling from the attic, tackling a run away dog, etc.  Ah....the good ole days.  [wink]
