November 5, 2016 will be the seventh event on Lake Texoma, whereas guides and fishermen with boats, donate their boat and time for taking wounded warriors, or soldiers on a free fishing trip on Lake Texoma.   The event is much like it has been for the past years, whereas the soldiers arrive from Ft. Hood, Ft Sill, Shepherd AFB, and Tinker AFB, to spend a weekend on the lake at the expense of people who want to show them a good time on the water and hopefully get them lots of fish.   Thus far, we have about 15 boats signed up, but still in need of boats, who can take around 4 soldiers out for a few hours fishing.   We also, as usual could stand some monetary donations towards the paying for some loose items (lodging, food), as well as some who would just like to come out and help with whatever.   We have a fine dinner planned by the VFW 7873, which is outside Pottsboro, on highway 289.  This will probably be on Friday and Saturday nights, which is supported by a host of other associations (American Legion, Elks).   Saturday morning around 7 am we load the soldiers at Little Mineral Resort, take them fishing, and return to a nice lunch, then a dinner again that night at the VFW 7873.   In lieu of breakfast at the Elks, we will not do it, as most soldiers are eager to get home, after a so busy weekend.   We have a few donations toward the event, but would like to have some monetary donations, and as I say, boaters who want to take some soldiers out for about 4 hours.   You can call me at 903-786-3981 or mail donations to Jerry Dorsey, 305 Pecan Place Lane, Pottsboro, Texas 75076.

Thanks Jerry.  Folks this is an awesome event.  Last year, we battled 40 to 45 mph winds, 5 foot swells, caught very few fish, but everyone had a great time!  The soldiers just enjoyed being on the lake and the fellowship.

So don't worry about taking your boat and having to "load the box up".  Last year, my boat came in with one, you ONE 15" sand bass.  [smile] [smile] [smile]

It's an awesome way to show appreciation to the troops.

Hope today finds each fisherman well, and blessed by the Lord.   I have been doing well catching big fish lately, and when you target big fish, it takes away from getting a lot of fish, but that's my preference.   I have won three tournaments back to back with big fish, and my customers seem to be well satisfied.  I come in with about 15 fish, but they are impressive.  My last trip, we had a 12, 10, 8, and lots of good looking box fish.   My main thoughts these days is the soldiers fishing trip, November 4 and 5, with the 6th they returned to their respective forts.   I have been busy, getting things lined out, and blessed with some 17 boats as of this writing.  Operation-Welcome Home, is a free trip, with all the extras for our troops, and its our 6th year.   I am getting donations from lots of geezers, and friends of mine around the lake.   I still need a few boats, and anyone can do this, all it takes is heart.   Thus far, guides for the trip are, Britt McKinney, Guy Martinez, Mike Blakely, Coy Devoll, Mike Scott, Howard Judd, Thomas Powell, Dennis Curtis, Kurt Dohman, Axman, Steve French, Booger Holmes, Tim Cline, and myself.   4-5 more and its makes where it is not so crowded in the boats.   The American Legion 231, VFW 7873, Vietnam Veterans Association, Little Mineral Resort, Tanglewood Resort, and many others support this cause, so lets get aboard, and show our thanks for the past and current soldiers who support or supported  this great Nation.   Thanks in advance for your kind appreciation to the cause.    JD Dorsey

Six Old Geezers, has long been a bunch of fisherman, on Lake Texoma, who answered the call, in time of need.  Operation-Welcome Home, is in need of some fisherman with boats to take some soldiers fishing for one day.   November 5, at 7am, Little Mineral Resort, fishermen try to take 82 soldiers fishing in 17 boats.   I sure could use some help, and I would very much like the people of Lake Texoma, get behind this event, and show our soldiers a good time, hopefully getting a few fish for their effort of coming here to relax, eat, fish, and have a good time.   There are 30 soldiers from Ft Hood; 20 soldiers from Ft. Sill, 22 from Tinker, and 10 from Shepherd AFB.   There  also might be some older veterans who would like to fish also.   It is a one time in a year, that soldiers meet here for such an event.   I am blessed to have the VFW 7873, doing dinner the night of the 4th, and again the night of the 5th, with the Elks Lodge 238, doing a barbeque lunch, 1230 at their facility on the lake; Vietnam Veterans Association, providing breakfast burritos, 6am on the morning of the 5th, so you also get to eat free as a helper.   Little Mineral Resort, and Tanglewood resort, are hosting the soldiers, at their rooms and cabins, and since I have been fortunate to collect enough money to pay for most of the expenses, my only concern is boats.   Reed's Cabinet Shop of Amarillo, is getting the shirts and hats, at no costs, and sack stuffers, will provide the soldiers, some reminders to take home.    Call now, I have had my pastor at Georgetown Baptist Church, say a prayer for great weather, so that takes care of that issue.   My number is 903-786-3981, and email address is jddorsey007@yahoo.com.   I do not want to have anyone left behind, but right now they are going to be stacked in boats, like cord wood.   Thanks JD
