Good to see some repair activities going on at the OU Biological Station.
It’s a beautiful piece of property, in a great location, hate to see it in ruins.

Hopefully once they get the boat houses back in the water, they’ll start on the buildings.
I didn’t see it at flood level, but I’m assuming the buildings were flooded?
Appears some 1st floor windows are broke out, but doors are intact, don’t see any obvious structural damage.
The flooded houses & structures in the Gainesville Boat Club where we stay, were just destroyed by the wave action.
That Father's Day "storm", really high winds, just did everything in.

If I could rewind about 35 years, and get a “do over”, I’d stick to my dream and get a Wildlife/Marine Biology degree.
My concern then, was so few jobs in the field, probably hasn’t changed, but, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
We met a very nice young lady at the Port Aransas Fish Cleaning House this past August.
She was working for TP&W collecting Otolith “bones” from Red Snapper and other fish.
These provide growth rates in relation to age, etc., pretty interesting.
She even cut some out of the Black Drum we caught, and gave them to the kids.

Maybe now, with more aquaculture, fish farming & fish population concerns, there’s more jobs, not sure?
Unfortunately, I believe my best book learnin’ days are behind me now.[frown]

I suppose I’d better just stick to what’s puttin’ Beans on the table.
Every once in a while we’ll splurge, and get have a little Chicken Neck with Rice.[smile]

44 years old and Reserve Mining locks it gate. Back to school for Civil Engineering Associate Degree and went from operating cranes, shovels and other heavy equipment to designing roads on computers. It can be done. I had 4 kids including twins and yes, we used food shelf, stamps, rent assistance after we sold house, but made it and went back to work for MN//dot for 22 years and paid my share back into system.

Ax, I like the way you think....
I may float this idea up to the CFO, we'll see what she has to say about me headin' off to school.
If'ya see a small tent setup at the Bio Station, you may wanna bring me any leftover Little Smokies you may have on the boat.[smile]

Here's a picture of the Otolith Bones the Biologist removed from the Back Drum we'd caught.

I go to Port A several times a year tuna fishing. Most times a lady is waiting on us. I caught an Escolar a few years back and she took the head. I bet it is the same lady.

That's pretty cool....Yeah probably is the same lady.
She mentioned she's made friends with Captains, Fish "Cleaners", etc. who let her know when fish are "hittin' the docks".
I'll be honest, I had to Google Escolar, sounds like a pretty rare catch?

Thanks for sharing the story.[smile]
