I've just purchased a lowrance HDS 7 w/ structure scan, that I'm installing on my new boat , at least it's new to me. A 2006 22ft. Triton center console , long ways from my pontoon boat that I sold. Anyway back to my question, if I tie the yellow wire from the main units power lead, to the yellow wire from the SS module power lead will that power up the SS module when the fish finder is turned on? Also any thoughts about transducers locations would be helpful! Can't wait to get on texoma an try my new boat, and structure scan system. Thanks in advance,

Transducer mounting location information is all I can advise you on but read your manual for wiring help and buy a cheap voltmeter if you are unsure of the wiring

  • I mounted a 24"plate along the bottom of my transom to mount my transducers on, that way you can move it around with out drilling lots of holes in the transom. I bought a mounting plate from BPS of Cabelas once and just made one for my current boat out of polymer but I guess wood would work.
  • I  had to move my large Huminbird several times on this  plate before I found a location where it would read and NOT kick up
  • Transducer must be level at lower speeds when you are looking for fish in order to see symmetrical fish arches
  • Kept as close to boat centerline as possible, but away from any turbulence from ridges or rivets on metal boats
  • With sidescan units, it must be the lowest thing mounted, lower than other transducers, speed probes, etc
  • Typically on the downward prop rotation side and at least 15" from prop

Good advice, Paokie.  When I mounted the transducer for my HDS10 I pretty much went through the same thing.

Biggest thing I've found on fish finders working correctly ALL THE time is that the ground wire is extremely important...especially on the Lowrance units because they take so long to reboot if they go out.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies and good advice. All wiring done with good clean connections, thanks Axman. Transducers mounted to where I think they will work, using some good advice, thanks Paokie. Going to put it in the water tomorrow and see how things work. Thanks again!
