I am driving 3 hours to fish this weekend and really need to know if Catfish Bay or any of the other ramps on the Oklahoma side are open.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It’s up 12.02 feet and been raining all day, I’d call the marina you plan to launch from before driving 3 hours unless you want to bank fish.

Call James Allen of Blue Water Striper Guide Services.  580-916-6298.  He guides out of Catfish Bay Marina.  I have used him several times in the past and he is very helpful.  He will  know if the ramp is open or not.  Good luck.

Went down to ramp at 377.  closed, water up to the parking lot, even the ramp sign that is at the top of the ramp is under water,  looks like the Mississippi river.  I don't know how anyone could possibly fish anywhere around there...

The output at the dam is 20,781 gallons per cubic feet per second (cfs) and the intake is at 20,628 (cfs) which means the lake level is dropping and it has, down to 11.17/ft.  it will take about 2 to 3 weeks to get it down if not a little more and hopefully mother nature backs off on the rain.  This week with rain looks pretty good, very little so keep our fingers crossed for the following two weeks.  If all goes well, Thanksgiving week should be perfect for fishing.

Forget shore fishing, all the fish will be gone around the Dam and sitting in deep holes and humps. Just my guess if the water is dirty full of junk they are not that hungry. My fish dinner is a can of Tiny Tots, rice, and seaweed.

So there’s a group of us coming down November 9th. How far down do you all think the lake will be by then and do you think the birds will be around?

Buncombe Creek Ramp is open but parking areas around the ramp are under water. You have to do a little walking to the top of the hill.

floodgates open to 33,000 cfs and the lake is going down slowly.  Spillway ramp should open up soon

Water level dropped from 11.17/Ft above normal to 10.89/FT above normal in the last 24 hours.  At this rate, your looking at 22 days before normal and not including rain or lack of rain.  If it rains, extend out to 30 days or so.  If no rain, it might be 18-20 days before normal.  Also, the COE might reduce the outtake pending downstream issues of flooding.  Again, Thanksgiving week most likely will be the best target date.  When its down to 5.0/FT above normal, Lowes Highport should be OK unless you have to unload by yourself.

We were able to put in at Catfish Bay without any problem. Chased the birds the last few days throwing sassy shads in chartreuse or moon glow, chug bugs and "A" rigs with moon glow or chartreuse jigs on them. Did well but fish were small and stayed mostly between Platter and Alberta Creek. Went looking for big fish and made 2 runs to the dam and East Burns run but wasn't much happening there like it was 2 weeks ago. Came back and fished some tree lines in the water and just tore up the big fish 2 days in a row with the biggest being a 11 1/2 pounder on a moon glow sassy shad. Sometimes it pays to get away from the 7th fleet! Tonight in the middle between Lakeside and Alberta Creek we caught and released small strippers that ranged anywhere from 12 to 16 inches with one 6 lb fish. Fish just stayed up and there were hundreds of gulls feeding there. Lost track on how many we caught and released but it was a good time and can't wait to come back at the end of next week.
