Has there been any productive sand bass fishing going on that anyone has knowledge of?

There are several guide postings on Face Book that show a good many sand bass are being caught along with a few stripers.

I've been catching a few in 30 to 40 fow on slabs.

They are not surfacing this year like they have in the past.

The guides seem to be catching a good many on live bait.  I'm going to try that next week.

I caught a limit of them Sunday just west of the islands in 11 fow. I had been fishing with slabs and shad, but got nowhere other than a couple of quick pulls on the shad. The depth finder was lit up though, so I went and caught some ghost minnows nearby and came back to the same spot. Probably caught 50 in about 1.5 hours including the really small ones I released. I ran two poles, and they were rarely both in the water at the same time.

Thanks.....  You should have 'em tomorrow.  [smile]

A little bird told me that the stripers that have been caught on slabs recently were on silver / chrome slabs.

Beavers, how did you rig the ghost minnows and can you catch them with a cast net?

Just ran the hook through under the dorsal fin.  1/2 oz egg weight, barrel swivel, 15 inch leader, and #4 hook.  One of my 7' nets has 1/4 inch mesh and will catch larger ghost minnows, but anything bigger than that and they swim right through.

Bobby Garland cracker colored slab slayr and baby shad swimr have been great small baits to imitate ghost shad for me this year.

Oops, it's the Double Silver Rainbow.
Top Producers -

http://www.bobbygarlandcrappie.com/babyshadswimr.php  - Lights out color or the Licorice/char work good for me

http://www.bobbygarlandcrappie.com/ittybitslabslayr.php   Double Silver Rainbow, which you can only find locally at Academy. You won't find the baby shad swimr at a store either - has to be ordered. I use the bobby garland jig heads too in white or char usually 1/8, which are hard to find in store too.

These have been great multispecies and fish finding lures for me. If there are fish around they will bit it. Cast or jig. I will typically go thru a whole package of jig heads and plastics on a trip so buy extra.
