Coming down in the 1st of May. How is the shad population this year. Seems like some years they are easy to get and others we have a hard time. I know some winters the kill is worst than others.

Wish I could help you but I haven't a clue!  From what I've read though the shad situation sounds pretty normal.

Sorry I am so slow getting back to you but I just wanted to reaffirm that there are plenty of shad in the lake this year. Just none where you throw your net the first 40 to 80 times.

Shad are very difficult to find right now for sure.  Some folks I've talked to are throwing a net for 2 to 3 hours to get enough.....and these are guys who know where to go for the bait.

Hopefully within the next week they'll move back to the marinas and give us bait rookies a shot.  [smile]

Yes Sir birddog. Go get em. Ha ha! I hope you get into some great fishing! I also have had some decent luck trolling, but I myself also like to catch em with live bait

Latest intel I got was that the bait is out in the main lake.......not around the marinas.  With all the rain, they may stay out there a while.

Gizzards seem to be the baits that are being caught.  Not many thread fins.

Nice!  A 20 pounder right off the bat is awesome!.

I can't wait till one of my boys hook into one that size.  And I hope I have a video camera handy when it happens.  They're colorful when they catch a bream.  I can't imagine their excitement when they catch one of those.
