Thanks for the questions OOSSSUU. I have been fishing Texoma for about 10 years. I have fished 40 to 45 days this past year. My main launch will be the Lakeveiw public ramp on the Oklahoma side. I may move to better accommodate my customers and the fishing. We primarily fish with live bait but I carry artificals and have no problem breaking them out when the situation calls for it. If anyone has any other questions please feel free to ask. J. Haysmer

you have this all wrong. While offering a discount to first responders, service members and senior citizens is admiral this is not the way to do it. Think about it .You could easily be loosing money on every trip by doing this and fishing kids for free makes no since. I love to see kids catch fish but you will find that they take as much if not more work and fishing them free just doesn't make since. You still have to catch enough bait for them and clean the fish that they catch. This is all extra work that you are doing for free. I understand that you are trying to build a business but selling yourself cheap and undercutting the standard guide rate is not the way to do it. There is a reason that very few if any reputable guides on this lake offer discounts. It is just bad for business

IKNOW, thank you for your opinion and I’m sure you are trying to help, but let me tell you how I feel about the discounts I am offering. I am well aware that I will lose a little money by offering these discounts but I feel it is the right thing to do. As a grandson of a two servicemen (Army), the grandson-in-law of a serviceman (Air Force), the son of a serviceman (Army), and son-in-law of a serviceman (Air Force) who is also a retired police officer I have nothing but respect for the men and women that serve our country. I will gladly give those who serve us, for far too little pay, a discount to show my gratitude. And if letting kids twelve and under fish for free and a senior citizen discount helps a family take a trip that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to, then it will be worth it.  Cleaning a few more fish is no big deal and I’m going to catch the same amount of bait either way. My standard rate is on par with that of other guides, and I happen to know well respected guides that offered discounts, including kids for free, before joining guide groups that homogenize their rates and don’t allow discounts. Thank you again for trying to help, but I think I’ll keep it the way it is.

Good for you.

Being a Senior Citizen and 100% Disabled Vet, I appreciate what you are doing.
Most Retired Vets, Senior Citizens, and First Responders do not have the income to take a kid on a guided trip.
I wish you Good Luck with your new business and hope that you do well.

Good Luck on your new venture Jeremy !!!

I’ve never started my own business, but I know sittin’ around waiting on the phone to ring ain’t gonna pay any bills.
I’d think any and all reasonable ideas, promotions, specials, etc. to spark some interest and get someone to book a trip who otherwise might not, are worth trying.

You’ve gotta have trips to post & talk about on Social Media to get your name out there, generate some interest, get word-of-mouth referrals, etc..
You can always make adjustments to your offerings once you have some business and see what works, and what don’t.
A professional, honest and friendly approach will go a long way with folks, other Guides, etc., and it’ll foster more friendships that’ll pay off in the long run.

There’s not as much posting activity on SOG as there used to be but there’s still a pretty good viewership that might generate some business.
I know we’d all enjoy your reports if you choose to post a few.
Like anything worth having, you’ll have to work for it, it’ll be an uphill battle for sure, but pays dividends in the end.
I know I haven’t said anything you don’t already know so hang in there, and best of luck. [thumb]

Best of luck on your new venture!

I know it takes a lot of testicular fortitude to decide to go into business for yourself.  Congrats!
