Hi Folks.......long time since I've posted.  Been having some ups and downs medically and just haven't felt right the entire month of August.

Still having some issues but hopefully things are turning the corner.  I ain't growing old gracefully.

I've fallen off ladders, fell through ceilings, jumped off roofs, been through knee replacement, had both shoulders rebuilt, two neck fusions, two heart stent installs, a pace maker install, and on and on and on....but this aging stuff is kicking my butt.  My doc says "you're getting old and feeling the consequences of passed physical activity".  Well, geez, I know that.  [smile] [smile]

August is typically a bad month for a lot of us on Texoma but this August was an exception for me.  The cooler temps and the rain we had led to better fishing, in my humble opinion.  [smile]

I had the added pressure this August of rounding enough fish to feed 150 folks or so at the church fish fry the Sunday prior to Labor Day.  Thanks to Jerry Dorsey, Steve French, Dan Hands, Roger Brown and Dennis and Clayton Curtis for contributing to the cause.  [smile]

I caught prolly 90% of the fish in August on slabs.  I've started using a holographic material on my treble hooks which has greatly increased my strikes.  Of course I never slab without a teaser hook.  That always helps.

My biggest fish in August was over 10# and it was caught on the teaser hook.

August has seen me fishing all over the lake.  Fish are in one spot one day and gone the next.  I did have a string of days where the fish stayed put but they didn't stay long.

I had absolutely no luck with top water bite but I did catch a lot of fish surfacing on tail zingers that I make.  The tail zinger killed 'em.  If they wouldn't hit it, I'd switch to a chrome rattle trap.  I remove the rear hook from a rattle trap and put a willow blade spinner on.  Makes the fish easier to remove and the spinner helps attract the fish more.

So, here are some pics from the month.  My sister-in-law went with me one day and she caught the 8 pounder in the pics.

Sept 1 I caught really good fish out around the islands on cohos.  Unfortunately, I haven't been since due to high blood sugar and dizziness but Thomas Powell is taking me out tomorrow.  All I gotta do is get in the boat.  [smile]  [smile]

My sister in law Cheryl with an 8 pounder.  Biggest fish she's ever caught.

Ya gotta use a teaser hook.

Really nice box fish from 1 Sept.  All on cohos.

Fish caught on a silver RL150.  Even the blues.  [smile]

Good looking guy with a good fish!!  [smile]

The fish wanted a lure with a lot of action one day.  I thought the coho was too stiff so I cut out the belly of the plastic making the cross section by the tail thinner.  Once I did this, the fish quite slapping the lure and started biting the lure.  I was also using a ReAxtion coho head white / sparkle.  I think that helps.

Treble hooks with holographic material was the ticket for me in August.

Goal of the month was to get fish for the church fish fry.  I took 48 quart bags of fillets ready to bread and fry.  There was plenty to go around.  People went home with fish!!  [smile]

It was a great month.   I sure hope to fish more in Sept.

A friend of mine, Dan Hands, caught a 31" striper today along the TX bank across from the islands.  Good job, Camper Dan!!

My doctor told me the same thing last month when I swore I'd broken a bone. Dr Mike checked me out and said, "Royce you are getting old." I said that I don't like this getting old and he replied  that I at least was living to age. Amen

When you put halographic material on a treble hook are you using shrink tubing instead of thread to attach the material to the hook?
Your picture of the dressed treble hook looks like you are speeding up the process and using shrink tube.

Yes sir!!  I still tie the solid color hair as I haven't experimented with it yet.

But the holographic material seems to work well with shrink tube.  I'm trying to work less.  [smile] [smile]

Of course, once I get some field results back from the Pro Staff, I'll re-evaluate the prices.

Working less and fishing more is a good thing.
Thanks for the information.
