Went out with George yesterday to check things out.  We couldn't get to his boat house except by pontoon shuttle at High Port.  George is a VIP and gets special treatment.  [smile]

The water is up so much that the boat house is above the road!  The geese enjoy it.

IMG_1025.JPG

We fished out at Sand Bass Pass with sassys and slabs.  Caught a couple of small fish.  Water looks like chocolate milk.

We were headed down to Molokini but spotted birds working the OK shore.  At first we thought they were the typical liar birds but noticed herons mixed in with them.  So we ventured over.

Fish were close in to the bank.  A guide boat pulled in to our right but left us room to cast.

George hooked a good fish on a sassy but it got off.  Folks in another boat were catching fish on A rigs.

Then this "person" pulled in.  I was frankly stunned at how rude this guy was!  I mean, it was like he was on a mission!

He almost hit the back of another guide boat.

image1.JPG

Then the guy turns and moves right in front of us.  George and I, being good Christian guys, did not throw anything at him even though we were justified.

This guy is a jerk.  I know his customers were embarrassed.  I couldn't cast at all and switched to a slab.  I never did see them catch a fish.  I guess there was some justice.

If you want to fish Lake Texoma and hire a guide....and there are a TON OF GOOD GUIDES UP HERE....don't patronize this guy.  He'll put you in harm's way.  [smile]

Freddie Grant is his name....what a jerk.

IMG_1028.JPG

Anyway, we had an enjoyable morning in spite of this turkey.  The lake is really up.  Not sure how much more it will take before The Island restaurant at High Port goes under water........amazing.

Water is dingy, of course, out in the river channel but the water behind the islands up around Sand Bass Pass is not too bad.  Fish were active.  Lots of fish being caught on slabs...even though they were small fish.  We did see a couple of box fish landed.

We called it a day about 11 a.m. or so and hoofed it to Patsy's cafe for cheeseburgers and fries.  [smile]

Thanks for the invite George.  Always a pleasure fishing with you.

We were out Monday and he ran right over our lines about 20 yards behind us.  There weren't too many boats out, so he had plenty of lake to get around......

Sometimes you have to keep your rod under water and pretend you don't have a fish on, or these hotshots will come roaring in and spook them. I usually take off and find other fish when intruded on. lot of jerks have a boat

Haven't seen this a-hole boat? Seems dumb to advertise if ya gonna be a a-hole
Kind of hard to miss. I always carry some slabs for folks like him, he acts like a green carp wannabe.
Someone needs to start thread that contains photos of all the lake jerks and we can also do a voting thing to see who is the worst. [biggrin]

Thanks for the report. Please let us know when the water clears a little. I'd like to go fish Texoma but its tough right now. All the ramps are flooded and the water is full of flotsam.

Bet there will be a lot of lures on the windy banks that need picking up.

Would pay BIG bucks to see how Freddie would react to HWDNP's reaction if his space on the water was violated in the same manner. Guaranteed much better show than the Mayweather/Pacquiao debacle!

Hats off to George and you for maintaining your cool but I personally find it hard to bite my tongue under situations like that, especially if the fish are on it shuts down the action.  We all have had a little stupid in us at one time or another but nobody has the right to be that stupid time and time again, even with the known fact that stupid can't be fixed. I had a very similar experience happen on the Ok side of the islands, we were there, the boat pulled up and quote told us " I am a guide with customers, this is my spot!" I thought for a second and politely told him I sure hope you do great today and your customers have a great time fishing! He just starred at us and mumbled, we asked his name or business name, he did not reply.

Yes, same guy.

He's a crude dude.  [smile]

Highport ramp is open.  You can't reach the courtesy docks as the walkways are underwater but you can launch and reach your boat.

Restaurant was closed down and they are moving furniture out of it.  It'll flood I'm sure.  Water was about 2 feet below the deck.

Checked out LIttle Mineral yesterday......whoa!  The ramp is no where to be found there.

Eisenhower Marina is offering boat slips for $200 a month without a lease during the next few months if anyone is interested.

Man that is a let down for me.  When I was a kid I watched his show all the time. He and Jimmy Houston were inspirational to me in getting into fishing.  I guess he and Jimmy are off two different stumps.  I can't see Jimmy acting this way.

Anyway, no excuse for rudeness and disrespect....Especially from a professional that does it every day. I also wonder how he would react if someone did that to him.

Permanently banned.........some guy wanted to start a bowfishing section so he wouldn't be bullied so much by the carp fisherman and I told him to grow a pair and post some bowhunting threads in the rough fish section and then told the moderator he was a fascist prick for editing post. He's a fascist prick for removing the fun fishing guide thread as well. That place is more of a disguised advertising webpage then it is a fishing forum, which is probably why the thread got pulled. Their sympathy for respectful fisherman goes about as far as a monthly advertising rate.

Did a little research on Freddie Grant. He is out of Buncombie Creek and uses a Texas phone number. He has made a TV movie about striper fishing on Texoma. Here is a link to his website. http://freddiegrantfunoffishing.com/services.html

I reread Ax's post, maybe we should all be more forgiving of the over the hill TV(I assume TX) personality, Freddie Grant. [angel]

[idea] If ya see him out there, be courteous and to make him happy....ask for a autograph. Just watching the expression on his face outta make you feel awesome. [thumb]

I hear he is hard of hearing, so pull in REAL, REAL CLOSE and not to waste his precious time, leave IN A HURRY .....WOT.  [rofl]

Interesting, the only contact information on the website is freddiegrant1 @ YAYHOO.com. How Apropos [biggrin][tongue][rofl]

The sad thing is he names Buncombe as his home marina, Tom and Karen the owners are great people and don't deserve the reputation this bonehead will bring. [mad]

LA&LMWARD-

HWDNP is one of the finest, most likable and knowledgeable full-time guides on Texoma.  At this point he shall remain nameless unless someone else who knows him feels it would be appropriate to chime in.

Rumors have it that he may have been the wise man who initiated the phrase, "Ya can't fix stupid!"  With that said, HWDNP will stand his ground and is not afraid to voice his opinion IF one chooses to challenge or offend him.

Let's just say if Freddie Grant makes the fatal mistake of pulling his shenanigans described above and violate HWDNP's personal space on or off the water, S _ _ _ will hit the fan and it won't be pretty, other than being pretty UGLY... [biggrin]

p.s.  Don't worry about saving your money because it would not be well spent if their two paths should cross as there won't be a round two! [smile]

I am not a guide but do come fishing. there is more than one rude guide launching out of buncome. try launching early in the morning. they will run you over. they do it to me again and there will also only be one short round. the last time I checked the guides do not own that lake. A few bad ones reflect on all.

I don't think of all regular fisherman based on the "bad ones" I encounter almost daily.
Rude is rude. No matter if you are driving a boat or a car.

I imagine most of us may have appeared "rude" to others on the lake one time or another, hopefully inadvertently. [love]
It's the jerks that do it constantly & know better but just don't care.
Years ago fishing, I even saw Sunshine being what I considered rude. [nono] Sorry George.

I didn't mean to really start a "fisherman" vs "Guide" debate.  [smile]  All the guides that I personally know are great folks.  Paokie has offered many times to let us tie up to him.  I've even fished over his anchor rope without him yelling too much.  [smile]

LONG time ago on the 6OG site, we had all agreed to take a picture of a rude person (regardless of whether or not they are a guide) and post it here so we can all "befriend" them the next time out.  [smile]

Freddie may be a great guy.  I don't know.

I did get SEVERAL requests from TFF folks (one of which is a guide) to delete my thread and give Freddie a break.  I responded that I didn't know Freddie and that he might be a great guy but he was a jerk the other day.

I also responded I don't really look at TFF because there is too much there to wade through and I'm a mover and a shaker and didn't have the time.  [comp]

Apparently he posted he was now guiding on Texoma and someone copied my post and put it on TFF......oh well.  [smile]

He is working for Bill Carey's Striper Express and had Striper Express customers in his boat that day.  I've fished around a lot of Bill's guides and they are all nice folks.  Stephen Andre and Chris Carey are a pleasure to be around and will help you catch fish if they can.

I wish Freddie well, as I do all fishermen on Texoma.  Just a little common courtesy is all that is required.  Maybe he just needs a little training and a reminder that it ain't the 80's anymore......  [smile]

But, I will be trolling around him a bit.  [smile]

Ax, I am glad you "outed" this guy. I think all rude guides ought to be made public. If it hurts their business didn't they bring it on themselves? That is the point, if they know they will be held accountable, in public forum, maybe they will stop being rude. It is one thing to have a bad day but apparently this guy is always like this.

"Rude guides"? [frown]
Most rude a-holes I come across are weekenders that cruise around with their heads up their butts.
I guess the only difference is weekenders don't know any better or are  preoccupied while some of the guides are looking out for "me" and DO know better

When I was 19 I graduated trade school and got my first job at Beaver Chevrolet in Denison. My first purchase was a 17' fish and ski boat (Bayliner Trophy from B&B in Pottsborro). My first trip out on Texoma me and a buddy put in at the dam and headed to table top area.  All we had were some lures and top waters.  We casted for a while and noticed a string of boats growing not far from us and they were all reeling in the stripers.  We idled towards them and when I got to about 100 yds I shut off my motor and started using my trolling motor.  There were probably 10-12 boats all tied up together in a string. It was obvious most were not guides but a couple were.  I figured I would get close enough to fish the school but didn't want to get too close and do anything to hurt their fishing. I thought it was okay since so many other boats were doing the same.  When I got about 60-70 yds from them the guide in the boat at the rear of the string started screaming at me.  He was publically cussing me for running my big motor when I wasn't.  He called me every name in the book and I was actually trying to be respectful and trying to keep my distance and had shut off my big motor way back.  Everyone was catching but us because we were off the mark and everyone else was on it but I still didn't want to infringe.  I got cussed anyway.  He just kept running his mouth until I had enough. When I was 19, and full of piss and vinegar, I didn't take too kindly to being cussed in front of all them people so I used my trolling motor and went right up to his boat.  He had several customers on his boat.  I pulled up to within about 10yds and asked him how long its been since he's had an _ss whoopin?  I commenced with a backlash putting him in his place. With 10-12 boats all tied up together I made sure everyone heard it.  And I was pissed don't get me wrong.  He snapped back at me and I snapped back at him.  I told him my big motor wasn't running when he started the name calling and cussing me and I was trying to be respectful and do the right thing.  He finally sulked up and I trolled off to give them all their distance. We hung around hoping to get in on the action but not knowing what we were doing we weren't catching anything and all the boats tied together were killing them.  Not long after our "encounter" he called me back over.  I trolled over to his boat and he invited us to tie up to his boat.  He apologized I apologized and the next thing you know he was passing live bait to us and we were catching.  We limited out in no time....all box fish.  We ended up having a great time.  For the time we were tied up to him he went out of his way to help us, show us how to rig, and provide us with bait.  What a turn around he made.

We had a terrible encounter that turned out good.  Even today looking back on that day, I feel I didn't do anything wrong.  I ran across a big shot guide trying to show off and be a bully.  He tried to bully the wrong kid.  And I really think he learned a valuable lesson from it. I've wondered many times over the years if that guide changed his attitude that day.
