Tom invited me out this morning in his comfortable Well Craft deep-V to do a little trolling.  I got an inside hint from JD where the fish were but we never made it that far.

Lots of fish on the flats around the islands.  I was doing a little R & D with a new umbrella rig I'm considering selling.  Caught 6 on it this morning.  Biggest was 8 pounds.

I've been having good success with it for a week or so.  I am switching out plastics to see which is the more effective.

I'm trying to keep the cost at a minimum with a target price of $19.99.

Lots of boats out there drifting bait.  They were steadily picking at the fish.

Fun trip.  Thanks Tom!!!  And thanks for your lure order!!!

Thanks for showing us that there really was fish there.  I guess you got to run a Reaxtion R&D umbrella against a straight up CM with a 6-0 result.  Of course I think Brian and I had some kind of fish repellent on us or something last weekend.

Thanks.  I wasn't going to mention CM.  [smile]  Glad you did.  [smile]

However, I wasn't sure if you washed the chocolate from the donuts off your fingers.  I have found stripers like white creme centers more.  [smile]

$$$$$, I was R&D an UMB rig also out by the Islands, put a deep diving Bomber on it, and hung it on a stump in 30' OW. Now have 37$'s on a stump, I'm going to have to get back one way or another. Have it marked MOB#1 on the GPS, I might have to be come MOB, to find it. LOL

Reelmates, yep.  They are worth diving for.  [smile]

The lure retriever that Academy sells for the umbrella rigs is worth the $19.  Retrieve one umbrella rig and it's paid for itself.

Last week end, we used it twice.  Worked both times.  So.....money was recouped.

I made one like the one academy sells  I had a old mop handle that was metal. I cut off about 4 inches of it and used it as a mold to pour lead into. I have found that a heavier weight is easier to work with. Especially in high winds or rough water.

I then drilled a hole through the lead longways. Cut about 10-12 inches of a coat hanger and twist it onto a great big #12 treble hook. Then slide the wire thru the hole you drilled in the lead cylinder, slide a swivel with a snap lock over the wire and finish it by twisting a loop into the wire end and cutting off any excess wire. Get you some 1/4" poly rope and you are set.
Works great and took me about 20 minutes and a cold beer to make.\

Oh dont forget to grind the barbs and point off the hook.
