Saturday 12/6

Planned on gettin’ bait, even though Deadstickin’ appears to be Off-n-Runnin’….

Clayton enjoys gettin’ bait, I guess we both kind of do….

Sometimes we see ‘Coons & Foxes going to the boat shed.

Saw a pair of Bald Eagles the last time right at Daylight, heard Pack of Coyotes howlin’ this time.

It’s not so much the bait gettin’, but the early mornin’ sights and sounds… [smile]

Bait’s been pretty easy, usually launch by 0600, scratch out enough just before daylight and be okay.

Keep in mind I’m only gettin’ enough for 2 people…

The cloud cover helped with the Full Moon, but it was still a little tougher this time.

A couple good throws, but several not-so-good.

My net has some holes it, I know I’m losing some baits on the way up…

A few always dump out in the boat when I’m swingin’ it over to the Purge Tub (Ice Chest)…

I forget all about fixin’ it after I’m done gettin’ bait…..

Late sunrise pic….sunlight was shining through the holes in the clouds…

IMG-3165_12-6-14.jpg

It looked pretty cool in person, but the old cell phone didn’t quite capture the majesty….

We idled around in the channel lookin’, seeing pretty good scattered marks…

Kept idling into the light wind until marks started to thin out, stopped and set-up a drift.

First pole in didn’t last long, don’t believe I ever got all four poles baited and all down together….

Birds were scoutin’ the area and didn’t take long for them to gather up and start workin’….

I thought it might play out as quick as it started but it seemed to hold….

I’d seen HWDNP run past us and stop ‘bout 500 yards away, so hollered at him on the radio…

He didn’t answer at first (was busy), and when he did he said he was gettin’em just as fast….

He had a full boat, so in all reality he was probably gettin’em faster than I was…..[smile]

We left four open seats in the Ice Chest, C&R’d for a while, both on bait and D-Stickin’…

Seem to have less deep hooks driftin’ opposed to on anchor so that helps….

We moved and drifted the same general areas a couple of times pickin’ at’em….

Never did get on another “active” school like that first bunch, but enough onesy twosy’s to keep it fun…

Clayton got the first Deadstickin’ fish of the trip….

Pearltreuse seemed to be the ticket...
But.....when your only fishin’ one rod and it has Pearltreuse on it….well… [smile]

We stretched it out until 11:00 or so, and decided to head-in and grab a little sumtin’ to eat.

The Area / Channel from the Islands to the Willis Bridge seemed to have activity at spots all along the way.

Drifted baits in 35-45 FOW with baits from 18’ down to 28’ down based on Marks….

here's a couple of screens from later in the mornin’….the clock on my unit is an hour fast…

Need to make myself a note to change the Clock Time and Sew-up my net….

Here’s what we finished up with…

IMG-3177_12-6-14.jpg

Nice weather, cooperative fish….we didn’t catch any monsters like everyone else but we had fun….

It was an absolutely wonderful day compared to the Wind-a-Geddon of the prior weekend.

‘Bout 3:00-3:30 or so I was sittin’ on the porch takin’ it all in...
I leaned back and may, I say may, have dozed off for a teeny tiny bit….

Shannon claims I was out for a pretty good while, but what does she know….. [smile]

I guess she thinks with all her umpteen years of medical what-not, she’s an expert observer on all things nappin’…. [smile]

I was prolly concentratin’ on sumtin’ and just happened to have my eyes closed….for an extended period of time. [smile]

Good mess of fish. Great report, always entertaining, and that Clayton has turned into quite the fisherman. Easy to see you're a proud Pop.

Mark (Retail Geek), as you well know they grow up fast, Clayton will be 10 next week.

Time flies for sure….all we can do is make the best of the time we have with them…

He’ll prolly kill me when he sees I’m tellin’ this story but what the heck….

Flashback to June of 2008….

We only came up once in awhile back then, not like we do now.

I had a Bass boat and mainly Bass fished, didn’t have a clue ‘bout Stripers….

Still don’t for that matter, but anyway….

I took Clayton out for a quick trip, I’d got some bait, put it in my livewell…

Luckily got to use a few of them before they all died.

We hadn’t planned on keepin’ any fish, but had one swallower.

When we got back to the house I told Clayton we’ll just clean it here at the house.

Grab a board or sumtin’ flat we can put the fish on, I’ll go get my stuff, and we’ll get it cleaned.

“Cleaned” being the key word in all of this…..

I came back outside to find he’d gathered a bucket, a bottle of Joy Soap…look down inside the bucket.

A board to lay the fish on, and a scrub brush….this fish was about to get “cleaned”…. [smile]

Great story. Did you explain to Clayton that the fish was a striper, not one of those slimy things that Ax brings home, and therefore did not need 'cleaning'.[smile]

That's a fish story for the ages. I'll bet Dad will remind him of that a few times over the years.
