I'm begging you guide's and anyone else out there trying to fish. Please stay off the water until lake comes down a few feet. If you insist PLEASE DO NOT CARRY A WAKE. You risk the safety of your crew and your boat. More importantly, the wakes do serious harm to the banks and to people's homes. Many people with homes, my family included, have maybe 6 inches to a foot of height that is stopping the lake from flooding their home so one boat wake could flood their homes. Most lakehomes were built around the 645-647 COE markers so we really don't have any margin for error. I beg you guy's please, please, please, stay off the water until it comes down a few feet. I understand your losing money and there is not much that can be done about that, but there are still things that can be done and preventing someone's house from being flooded from a boat wake is one them.

This is a no win conversation. Both sides are fighting for their lively hoods and both sides have very valid points to offer. I think the OP was just stating keep our homes in mind when your out on the lake [wink]

i guess mr costner doesnt realize that the lake was built for flood control and if we were under these situations of flooding enough times and boat waves became an issue causing houses to flood or take on water i bet that if this occurred very many times and enough people complained to the COE and got the news talking about this situation. i bet mr. costner would find out that being a guide on this lake is and profiting from the striper fishing is just a priviledge. this lake was built for flood control and i bet the COE would shut it down. just remember that the marinas are hurting because of this situation and if someone cannot understand that a boat wave causing damage to a house or houses because of high water conditions and boat waves then he could ask the COE who is going to pay his bills. just because you loose a little time on the water for a week or so till the water recedes causing you to loose a few dollars. just remember you are not the only one that is suffering from the high water the marinas are out a heck of a lot more than mr costner would be. they did not build this flood control lake for our fishing priviledge to ruin someones house because your boat waves.

It sound like you never ben hear when the lake flooded before (the lake built for flood control) why did you buy a home in the flood plane a little time could be 2 or more months remember they didn't build the lake for your priviledge  we still have to pay for boat rental few dollars is maybe  $1000 a week or more

Guys, let's not let this degrade into a nasty thread 'cause I'll delete it.

Both sides have made their point.

I've cancelled trips all the way through June 17th.  If I get back on the water on the 18th, I will have lost only $14,375 in missed income, since May 17th.
Everybody is taking a hit because of the flood.  I predict I won't be able to get back out on the 18th though. Each day is at least 500.00 lost for me.  Can't do anything about it though. If it isn't the flood, its the drought, Blue Green Algae, bait kills, fish kills, Zebra Mussels, Alligators, Coast Guard...lol  Living the Dream Baby, Living the Dream.   Got to smile and use the time off to clean the garage or something useful. We get back to normal, when we get back to normal and not a minute sooner.

No need in anyone getting upset. I see a pretty easy solution. Be courteous. Maybe just try to watch out for other people and their property. You see a house in danger, steer clear, or slow down. We all live on this lake together. We slow down when approaching other boats in a congested area. We slow down in Marinas. Not unreasonable to ask that you try to make a wide berth around a guys house, or slow down when passing by. You don't have to quit fishing or boating. Just be a bit more wary.

If I ever do get on the lake, I will keep this in mind. I didn't know there were any houses that low. Thanks for the heads up.

great post and well said striper slayer.    and to gerald costner i apologize for and if i offended you or made you upset with my post.    i just understand how texomapowerboater feels about watching the water get within a foot of flooding his and others houses in his neighborhood and a good boat wake would flood his place of living.  that is a hard situation to be in and i understand because i have lived thru 2 flooded houses and my hardest house episode was loosing everything i owned i mean everthing thru a major house fire that burned all taxidermy rods reels clothes beds pictures personal things the hole nine yards and had to start all over and rebuild my life again.   it was the hardest thing i have ever had to swallow in my life. so i hope you understand. i know that ? dollars aint nothing for me now because that house fire and loss was a life time loss of possessions and a major overhaul in my life. and it was not fun and still isnt to this day.....         thank you and have a great day

100 % with striper slayer. No one needs to give up their living.  Common sense and courtesy would solve most problems. Seems both are sometimes in short commodity these days.  Hope texomapowerboaters house makes it thru okay. Lots of places are worse off. Wonder about some of the flooded places at Bridgview with the high south winds. Feel for Darin and all who have lost irreplaceable items due to disasters.

Thanks to anybody who heeded the warning to reduce wakes at peak elevation. Looks like water has gone down enough that a wake would not add to the flood damage, but I will caution that a lot of private docks and public docks are still very susceptible to wave action, which can do serious damage to boat's. So I ask again, respectfully, to watch your wakes around marina's and private boat houses during this difficult time.

I have little doubt that the counties surrounding the lake will be included in the Federal and state declared disaster zones and I encourage everyone with damage to seek federal aid for property damage and loss of business.

I helped a neighbor lay thick black plastic down over some of his exposed bank.  He's been trying to get a 'seawall' built (he's a stone mason).  Waves will really destroy the work he had already done.  His next door neighbor put in $15,000 worth of big rock after 2007 due to wave action and erosion.
