My boat has been sitting a couple months due to deer season, and since I’m in between jobs at the moment, I decided to take it for a spin along with my Dead Heads. After some routine maintenance at the house, I didn’t make it to Highport until a little before 4pm. What a beautiful afternoon and nearly perfect dead sticking weather! I ran around to a few spots i’ve heard of others catching them with not much luck. Found two guide boats around the Oilwells but they must have moved on. As the guides headed to the house, I planned to do the same but decided to check one of my favorite coves I had had success last time dead sticking. As I rounded the corner, there was a cyclone of birds everywhere. Not dive bombing just circling. Immediately started marking good fish suspended about 20’ down. I tied on my ReAxtion dead head and grabed the darkest fluke I had (watermelon with gold flake). No sooner than I got my 10 pulls out, a freight train slammed me faster than I could engage the spool and got off. In the past and as mentioned here, the dead stick bite can be anywhere from a tap to the line just going slack. These fish were pissed at something because everyone hit with a head of steam. Must be the chocolate milk they are swimming in. Proceeded to catch a limit of a good mix of overs and box fish before dark. Threw everything back cause I didn’t want to clean fish. Man, what a great time on Ole Texoma.

Good report and great catch. I knew I should have gone yesterday but my back gave out. Going to dry today.
