Wondering if a Pet Spoon trailed behind a Dipsy Diver would work as well and be as simple to use as a Hellpet Rig.. I can find a Dipsy, but not a Magnum Hellbender. Any advice appreciated very much.

The hellbenders don't have hooks.
Dipsey Diver should work.

I buy them without hooks for hell pet rigs. Only hook is on the pet spoon.
Despise it? That's a little harsh Chris! [smile]

I don't care how you fish it, just not in the middle of the blow up please. Now I know why I fish Tue, Wed & Thur. No troller in my spot . Glad I don't have to fish weekends if I don't want.

You know I troll, as do several of my friends.  I love using rigs, , but will do what I have to get fish for my customers.  It seems these days the fish are different locations every day.  I also use a-rigs, trolling and casting.  I have used hellbenders, thunder sticks, and whatever in the past.  I know a good part of the lake for trolling, which helps me to be productive.   I can tell you one day the fish are shallow, and some days deep.   There is a lot of top water action, which makes it easy for every one.

Mike we caught a few over between boyscout camp and mouth of big mineral. We were alone til birds flew in then about 15 boats swarmed us. I pulled boat out and washed it after that. [frown]. Weekenders can have it!

Wife and I were laughing about Wednesday, she was pulling her hell pet rig out to get her casting rod when she caught her 28" fish. They do work.

If I remember correctly for the excuses under "Fraid I'd Get My Butt Kicked", that's number 12.  [smile] [smile]

That's all i do is troll with umbrella rigs. I love to fish and due to my back operations am unable to throw a cast net for shad. That remark about trolling into surfacing shad, I do that too. I see a lot of fishermen doing it with slabs, and lures. I guess somebody has to get the blame for the fish going deep.

I'm old-school and did not have a downrigger. I use the hellbender (with hooks) and tied a line to the first hook. usually use a sassy shad as a trailer that helps pull the bait down - of course it would do the same without a hook.
has worked well in past.  hellbenders are getting harder to locate.
