What has happened to the sand bass (white bass) population at Texoma. We used to catch more of them than stripers but have not landed any this year.

We caught a few Thursday evening below schooling stripers. We still caught 5 to 1 stripers, but the few sandies we caught were nice size. Returned all... They seemed to like a small silver rattle trap but also a small white sassy.

I have been out on the lake many times in the past 10 years and only landed 2 or 3 Sandies.
I really miss those days back in the 60's and 70's when the birds were swarming over the schools of Sand bass and Hibreds and you could hook up on every cast or get a double trolling a Golly Whopper. I really enjoy the Small Mouth that seem to be getting larger and stronger. I have also hooked up with 1 Gold Eye and 1 Walleye. Yes, the sand bass are not what they used to be. While cleaning Stripers I have found small Sand Bass inside along with small Large Mouth bass, Crappie and Blue Gills. Looks those Big Boys will feed on anything that will fit in their mouth. I have changed my fishing methods over the years on Texoma. It is what it is. I Enjoy what we have. I also love just looking at the rocks and trees on a beautiful lake on those days when I get home with an empty live well. 1.jpg  2.jpg  3.jpg  4.jpg
