Today was pretty frustrating….

Second time out to be skunked on stripers.

Launched from HP at 8:30 a.m.

Can’t name all the places we fished.  Just say we fished from High Port to Buncombe to Walnut Creek….

Every where we went we marked good fish.  Everywhere we went we dead sticked with different colors, threw cohos and threw sassys.

Everywhere we went…same results..tap..tap….tap….but no bite bite bite!!

Not sure what was up.  Water temperatures were about 48 every where we went.

We used scented lures, non-scented lures…….lures with trailer lures…..nada…nothing……

We did run my jugs though and off 9 jugs we got 12 catfish.  Biggest one was 29 inches.  We didn’t weigh him but it was a nice fish.

So we brought home dinner.  Won’t be going out the next few days.  Cold weather coming in and I have a ton of lure orders……….

I am, however, going to OK tomorrow to look at a few tritoons….

Corndog....you are not alone.  Very frustrating.  Sometimes I think I'd be better off with out that dad gummed fish finder........

When I get in the back of the boat on the starboard side, I can see my dead head on my graph.  I can watch it as 100s of fish pass it by without biting.  Very frustrating.

Caused me to consume 2 almond bars today.  [smile]

Seems you weren't alone Ax, just read on another Forum (tff) where even some guides that have been doing really well got skunked today. Just one of those days I guess.  At least you got some lil smokie fish for supper.  You have a fish finder?  Mine seems to be just a depth finder, not many fish.

Ax, did you say you tried some of those hook trailers that other guy suggested? Curious because I was thinking about buying some.

That was me who recommended the stinger hooks.  Since that post, I've been to both of the Bass Pro Shops in Dallas, two Academy's and a Gander Mountain and none of them carried the Gamakatsu G-Stinger hooks.  Hope this saves you some gas money-BPS carries them on their website so that's probably your best bet.  I also found directions on the internet how to make your own with heavy braid and super glue.  The Gamakatsu's are expensive at $7 per package for 4.

I sell the stinger hooks for $9.99 for six (6).  I use those.  It's a 2/0 hook with colored deer hair tied on.  I use the same hook as a teaser hook on the main line of my slabs.

I did have a stinger on one rod.

The other rod I had a bubble belly on a 2/0 hook as the trailer.

Nada on either one.  Like Hoss said, apparently it was not my day for stripers.!!  [frown]

Ax, I found the small bites and no hook up deal was small blue cats the other day. They weren't big enough to get the deadsticking hook in their mouth. John foul hooked one is how we found out. Also got a lot of short strikes grabbing the fluke by the tail or it was small stripers. Very frustrating. I use red trailer hooks on my trolling rigs and they help a ton with short strikes. I haven't done it yet but when the weather gets better I'm going with a 1o trailer hook on my flukes for deadsticking. I already have a 1o on my teaser flukes. Guess we'll see.
